The Grotte Casteret (Gruta Helada Casteret)
by David ST-PIERRE (ed.)

ST-PIERRE, David (ed.) (2007). The Grotte Casteret (Gruta Helada Casteret) [Cave Studies Series 17]. Buxton: British Cave Research Association. £5.00 plus postage. ISBN 0-900265-32-9. iv + 48pp, A4, 36 photos, 12 maps/drawings.

An Annotated and Illustrated Bibliography

This is a comprehensive bibliography of a particular, very unusual cave system - the Grotte Casteret. Not just a cave but a Glacière - a cave in rock containing a sheet of ice and ice formations - a great deal of ice. This bibliography is illustrated with surveys, sketches, drawings and photographs drawn widely from the many and often well-travelled visitors to the Grotte Casteret since its first known explorations by Norbert Casteret, way back in 1926 - some 80 years ago. It is annotated by its editor and others to create a comprehensive and coherent story about the cave’s known explorations.
The compilation of this publication has been a truly international effort, particularly with British, French and Spanish cavers/cave researchers and organisations. A full list of contributors appears on page 43, but particular mention needs to be made of the considerable contributions made by Ray Mansfield, the late Roy Paulson (BCRA Librarian), Dr Trevor Shaw, Paul Deakin, Samual Azemard and Jean-Paul Liautaud SCAL, Philippe Drouin FFS, Francis Guichard SCPé, Xavier Noguès FFS, Carmen Fisse Segarra SIE-CEA (Barcelona), Manuel J.Gonzalez-Rios CDME (Granada) and Drs Herman W.de Swart, Speleo Nederland and Jerry Wooldridge
