Periodicals and Books published by BCRA
  bullet Speleology BCRA's bulletin
In January 2003, Speleology (ISSN 1478-999X) replaced Caves & Caving as the Bulletin of the BCRA. The magazine aims to cover 'popular science and technology' related to caving, as well as expedition reports, and the activities of BCRA's special interest groups. It appears three times a year. Speleology is now a member benefit of BCA, billed as the Bulletin of British Caving and is sent to all BCA 'direct individual members'. Order a free copy

bullet Cave & Karst Science BCRA's science journal (on paper)
Cave and Karst Science (ISSN 1356-191X) is the Association's peer-reviewed science journal. It is published three times a year and is issued to BCRA members who have opted to receive it. From volume 34 (to be published in Spring 2008) the journal will contain full colour on some inside pages.

bullet Cave & Karst Science Online
With volume 34 (to be published at the beginning of August 2008) we are planning to publish an online version simultaneously with the print edition. All BCRA members will have free access to C&KS Online. Members who do not wish to receive the print edition of C&KS can pay a lower membership fee. Online access will also be available on a subscription basis to non-members of the Association, with an annual and a monthly fee. Please note that we will continue to offer C&KS on paper for as long as it is economically possible to do so.

Online access will require a User-Id and Access Code. These access credentials will allow members/subscribers to download each individual article in Cave & Karst Science as a PDF. There will also be a single PDF of the entire journal. Although we are concentrating initially on new issues of C&KS, the access credentials will allow members/subscribers unlimited access to all of BCRA's online contact that we have managed to generate.
See the News Page for further information.
  bullet Cave Studies Introductory Booklets
The Cave Studies Series is a series of introductory booklets on a range of cave-related topics. The aim of the series is to provide an introductory text aimed at the sport caver who has become interested in some other aspect of speleology. The Series editor is always willing to consider possible new titles to add to the series, and to discuss details with potential authors. Currently available titles are

  bullet Special Interest Group Publications
  • The Cave Radio & Electronics Group produces a regular journal (ISSN 1361-4800)
  • The Cave Surveying Group produces a news-letter called Compass Points (ISSN 1361-8962)
  • The Explosives Users Group circulates information and provides a discussion forum using an Internet mailing list
  • Two previously-active BCRA SIGs - Hydrology and Speleo-History - are no longer operating.
  • The non-BCRA Cave Photography Group is no longer active, but it can still provide some of its full-colour newsletters (ISSN 1478-9639) and some of the previous Underground Photographer journals (ISSN 1362-0614)

  bullet Cave Science Index
A two-volume Cave Science Index, which covers Cave & Karst Science and its predecessor titles has been published on paper and can also be searched on-line. The on-line version has been extended to include the publications of BCRA's predecessors and those of University of Bristol Spelaeological Society and William Pengelly Cave Studies Trust. It also covers BCRA's Cave Surveying Group and Cave Radio & Electronics Group.

  bullet Members' Newsletter
We publish newsletters at irregular intervals, but we aim to produce two or three a year. BCRA members are a sub-set of BCA members but, currently, we send the BCRA newsletter to the full BCA newsletter mailing list.

  From our Archives
BCRA still has stock of most issues of BCRA's 'transactions' and 'bulletin' as well as those of its predecessor organisations. Please enquire.

Other Items
  Speleological Abstracts Annual Bibliography
Speleological Abstracts / Bulletin Bibliographique Spéléologique (BBS) is a world-wide bibliography of caving publications, produced annually by the UIS (Union Internationale de Spéléologie). Its correspondents around the world collect caving articles and scientific papers which are catalogued into an A4 volume. BCRA co-ordinates the abstracting of many English language publications for incorporation into BBS/SA. From 1993 SA/BBS incorporated the earlier BCRA publication Current Titles in Speleology (CTS). Copies of Speleological Abstracts can be obtained from BCRA - please contact publication sales (see Contacting Us) for availability.

  BCA Publications
The British Caving Association produces a range of booklets and information about caving. For logistical reasons BCA and BCRA have separate sales offices. BCA publications were listed on p15 of BCA news #7. For contact information, see our contact page.

  Other titles
We have a number of other books in stock. Please contact us for an up-to-date list. You can also inspect a list of past BCRA titles, listed by ISBN / ISSN. Sometime in 2007, we hope to be able to include a list, on this web site, of the publications we currently have for sale. You can currently view the list as part of BCRA newsletter 7.
