Periodicals and Books published by BCRA
  bullet Speleology BCRA's bulletin
In January 2003, Speleology (ISSN 1478-999X) replaced Caves & Caving as the Bulletin of the BCRA. The magazine aims to cover 'popular science and technology' related to caving, as well as expedition reports, and the activities of BCRA's special interest groups. It appears three times a year. Speleology is now a member benefit of BCA, billed as the Bulletin of British Caving and is sent to all BCA 'direct individual members'.

bullet Cave & Karst Science BCRA's science journal (on paper)
Cave and Karst Science (ISSN 1356-191X) is the Association's peer-reviewed science journal. It is published three times a year and is issued to BCRA members who have opted to receive it. From volume 34 the journal contained full colour on some inside pages.

bullet Cave & Karst Science Online
BCRA now publishes an online version of Cave & Karst Science. All BCRA members have free access to this, and we offer a tiered membership with a lower membership fee for members who do not wish to receive the print edition of Cave & Karst Science. Online access is also available on a subscription basis to non-members of the Association, with an annual and a monthly fee. We will continue to offer C&KS on paper for as long as it is economically possible to do so.

  bullet Cave Studies Introductory Booklets
The Cave Studies Series is a series of introductory booklets on a range of cave-related topics. The aim of the series is to provide an introductory text aimed at the sport caver who has become interested in some other aspect of speleology. The Series editor is always willing to consider possible new titles to add to the series, and to discuss details with potential authors. Some of the earlier titles are unfortunately now out of print. Currently available titles are

  bullet Special Interest Group Publications
  • The Cave Radio & Electronics Group produces a regular journal (ISSN 1361-4800)
  • The Cave Surveying Group produces a newsletter called Compass Points (ISSN 1361-8962)
  • The Explosives Users Group circulates information and provides a discussion forum using an Internet mailing list
  • Two previously-active BCRA SIGs - Hydrology and Speleo-History - are no longer operating.
  • The non-BCRA Cave Photography Group is no longer active, but it can still provide some of its full-colour newsletters (ISSN 1478-9639) and some of the previous Underground Photographer journals (ISSN 1362-0614)

  bullet Cave Science Index
A two-volume Cave Science Index, which covers Cave & Karst Science and its predecessor titles has been published on paper and can also be searched on-line. The on-line version has been extended to include the publications of BCRA's predecessors and those of University of Bristol Spelaeological Society and William Pengelly Cave Studies Trust. It also covers BCRA's Cave Surveying Group and Cave Radio & Electronics Group.

  bullet Members' Newsletter
We have published newsletters at irregular intervals but, currently, the BCRA newsletter has been suspended in favour of a web-based forum. Further information

  From our Archives
BCRA still has stock of most issues of BCRA's 'transactions' and 'bulletin' as well as those of its predecessor organisations. Please enquire.

Other Items
  Speleological Abstracts Annual Bibliography
Speleological Abstracts / Bulletin Bibliographique Spéléologique (BBS) is a world-wide bibliography of caving publications, produced annually by the UIS (Union Internationale de Spéléologie). Its correspondents around the world collect caving articles and scientific papers which are catalogued into an A4 volume. From 1993 SA/BBS incorporated the earlier BCRA publication Current Titles in Speleology (CTS). You can purchase issues up to number 44 from BCRA (see form P1) but please note that we will not be stocking issues after number 44, and we no longer accept subscription requests, which should be made to the publisher at ssslib.ch/bbs/.

After BCRA's Current Titles in Speleology was absorbed into SA/BBS, BCRA continued to coordinate the abstracting of many English language publications for incorporation into BBS/SA. However, in 2008 BCRA ceased to have an role in this process as a reliable team of volunteers could not be found to manage the task. This means that the number of UK entries in Speleo Abstracts may be far less than used to be the case. BCRA is hoping that its coordination role can be revived, perhaps as part of its function within the new British caving library but, as always, we are desparate for motivated and committed volunteers.
  BCA Publications
The British Caving Association produces a range of booklets and information about caving. For logistical reasons BCA and BCRA have separate sales offices. BCA publications are listed in BCA newsletters.

  Other titles
We have a number of other books in stock. Please contact us for an up-to-date list. You can also inspect a list of past BCRA titles, listed by ISBN / ISSN. We hope, soon, to be able to include a list, on this web site, of the publications we currently have for sale but, for now, please download form P1.
