BCRA Google Calendar

The original notes for BCRA staff, describing how to use the BCRA calendar, are on the Council bulletin board page. However, that page is probably not currently available. So, in brief, here are a few reminders ...

New events

It is generally good practice to "duplicate" an existing event rather than create a new one. It makes it easier to maintain some level of consistency in the way events are presented.

Old events

It is not good practice to delete old events. They should be kept in the calendar in case thery need to be referred to – either by a customer, or by BCRA staff wanting to duplicate the data.

Private and non-BCRA events

Private events (e.g. Council meetings) and non-BCRA events (e.g. BCA AGM) should be tagged using a specific hashtag (see below) so that they can be properly processed by our software.

Using hashtags in Calendar event titles

You can add hashtag to calendar events, e.g. Monthly Cave Science Seminar #online

Generally speaking, hashtags have no meaning to the calendar software – they are just indicators for the reader of the data. They are printed in red in our listing, so you can use them to highlight special features – like Seminar #online or Field Meeting in Derbyshire #weekend_event. However, there a few tags that do have a special meaning to the software...

For legacy reasons you dont need a # for #online, but it must then be inside quotation marks, i.e. "online" for it to be recognised.

The legacy settings for private and not BCRA (without #; case insensitive) have been removed.
