As the slgnals are those propagated in long, medium and short wave bands throughout the world, there is a universal application, The systems make use of the fact that a.m. signals have symmetrical sidebands spreading out each side of the carrier frequency so that a modulated carrier has a constant phase, that of the carrier. Interference is not symmetrical even when it spreads through the same frequencies and this asymmetry can be used against it.
